Once upon a time, in a land faraway, there lived in a remote fort a powerful and headstrong falcon. He was the last of the kingdom of falcons and he lived all alone ever since his friends were scattered far and wide. Some of his friends migrated; some perished. There were others who were captured by hunters. The last remaining falcons, of which he was one, dispersed across the four corners of the vast kingdom. The passing of years did not bridge the distance between the children of the kingdom or reunite them. The scattered falcons resigned themselves to their fate. They were inclined to believe that what happened, and what continued to happen was beyond their control and that it was written in the stars.
في البعيدِ البعيدِ من الزمانِ، و البعيدِ من المكان، كان ثمّة في إحدى القلاعِ النائيةِ صقرٌ قويُ و عنيدٌ. واحداً من البقيةِ المتبقيةِ من مملكة الصقور كان.. و كان يعيشُ وحيداً منعزلاً، بعد أن تشتّت رفاقُه كلّ في سبيل:
قسمٌ هاجرَ، و قسمٌ ماتَ، و قسمُ وقع في شباكِ الصيّادين. أمّا القسمُ القليلُ المتبقّي والذي هو واحدٌ منه- فقد تناثرَ في أصقاعِ المملكةِ الواسعةِ. و لم تستطعْ السنون المتواليةُ أن تؤلّفَ بين قلوبِ أبنائهِ، و لا أن تعيدَ جمعَ شتاتِهم من جديدٍ.. فركنتْ صقورُه المتفرّقةُ إلى التسليمِ بما آلتْ إليهِ أحوالُها، و باتتْ تميل إلى الإعتقادِ بأنّها عاجزةٌ، و بأن ما جرى و يجري لها إنما هو أقربُ ما يكونُ إلى القضاءَ و القدرِ. لا جدوى من البحثِ عن مخرجٍ!
